Burnt Field
This handwoven Persian Gabbeh rug originates from the nomadic tribes of southwestern Iran, where Qashqai and Luri weavers have long produced thick-piled textiles prized for their warmth and simplicity. Gabbeh rugs are distinguished by their minimalist compositions, often favouring open fields of rich, saturated colour over dense geometric patterning.
Dating from the mid to late 20th century, this piece presents a warm ochre ground with dark contrasting borders, a combination that speaks to the natural dye traditions of the region. The thick, shaggy pile and subtle tonal variations across the surface reflect the handspun character of the wool and the organic rhythm of nomadic weaving.
